Cool the Earth Progress Update:
Sangster students and families have been busy recycling, reusing and
reducing. We now have 181 students participating in the program and have
completed 643 actions. Sangster will be holding other 'all school'
activities as well - so keep an eye on the Thursday folders for upcoming
events.

No Waste Lunch - Way to go!
Sangster held a "No Waste Lunch" on Friday, January 22, 2010 which
resulted in reducing the amount of garbage generated from 14 bags down
to 10 bags! Congratulations to the students for reducing the amount of
garbage going to the landfills. Sangster will be holding another "No
Waste Lunch" in the future - so be on the lookout for the flyers. If you

5, 2009 - Progress Update:
During the month of December, 77 students participated taking 260 "Cool
the Earth" Actions. Stay tuned for monthly progress updates. If you

Fairfax County Association for the Gifted is hosting a Summer
Academic Programs and Enrichment Camp Fair on Tuesday, January
12, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Oakton High School - 2900 Sutton Rd - Vienna,
VA

Sangster's Cool the Earth Program is having a Planning Meeting
on Thursday, November 5th at 6:15PM in room R4 (before the PTA
meeting).).
We need a few VOLUNTEERS to help run our new
Cool the Earth
program. This new program teaches our kids
about the effects of global warming and how we can take actions
to reduce our carbon footprint and therefore reduce global
warming. We need people to:

Help
run the Action of the Month activities (4 of them)

Copy
Flyers
-
Hand-out Action Coupons to the Kids

Mark
your calendars! Don’t miss our Scholastic Book Fair. This
year’s book fair theme is World Destinations and will
be during school days on November 16 through 20, from 9:00am
to 3:40pm.
Family times (for students and parents to come together) are
scheduled for:
Tuesday, November 17th from 5:00 to 8:00.
Thursday, November 18th from 3:40 to 5:00.
Students
will find books for recreational and academic reading. Parents may
also want to purchase a book for their child’s classroom
teacher. Simply select one or more Book Wish Donation Cards from the
Wish List display at the Fair. The titles are hand picked by the
teachers as desired library selections for their classrooms. Your
child will be able to personalize a bookplate to place in each gift
book you purchase.
Proceeds from this event will enable our school library to purchase
additional library materials for Sangster students to use and enjoy!

The
2009-2010 Reflections theme is: "Beauty Is..."
The Reflections Program provides an opportunity for students of all
backgrounds to express their creativity through dance choreography,
film production, literature, photography, visual art and original
music. You can help the National PTA celebrate their 40th year for
this program by submitting your entry! For the complete
Reflections Handbook, click here. While you've got your creative
mind in gear, why not submit an idea for the Reflections theme for
the 2011-2012 season? Click here to learn more. A couple of key
dates to remember:
Remember, winning entries will receive a ribbon for 1st place, 2nd
place, 3rd place and Honorable Mention. 1st place entries from each
category will move on to the next round of judging. Official rules

The
After School Science Program is back this year with an 8-week
program! Space is limited and slots fill up quickly, so turn in your
registration now! The group sessions will be held on Mondays,
from 1:20 to 2:20 starting October 19 running weekly through
December 14 (no class on November 12). Each week will feature an
exciting new topic such as "Under Pressure - Explore the properties
of air...under pressure!" and "Current Events - Ride the electron
freeway to learn about electricity and circuits".

The
Sangster Fencing Club is now accepting registrations for
students in grades 3-6 to participate in the Fall 2009 session.
Instruction will be provided by Olympic fencer Jun Liang-Smith. No
fencing experience required! Registration is $140 per student, and
registration forms are due no later than October 7, 2009.

expected to wear sneakers, sweat pants and t-shirts. All other
equipment will be provided.

Foreign Language Experience (FLEX)
provides children an
opportunity to experience Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Sign
Language or Spanish. Classes are 20 weeks long, and will start
the first week of October. Class registration opens Thursday,
September 17 and will close on September 30. Only paper forms
will be accepted. A

registrations forms, emergency care forms and general program

Chess Club.
The Sangster PTA will be sponsoring a chess club
this fall. The program will run from September 29, 2009 thru
January 27, 2010. The club will meet on Tuesdays from 3:45 to
5:15 in the Cafeteria.
